为了庆祝SLA（the Special Libraries Association，美国专业图书馆协会，一个颇具权威性的国际组织）的百年华诞，其生物医药与生命科学分布（DBIO，the Biomedical and Life Sciences Division of SLA）特组织了一次“百年最有影响的百种生物&医药期刊”评选活动。
此次活动主要通过全球各地868名DBIO会员评选，还有9名DBIO会员会组成专家组，在DBIO主席，Tony Stankus教授的带领下，根据各自组内获选刊物的情况，并综合三个组的所有获选刊物情况，分别从每个组中选出33-34种最受会员推崇的刊物，共同组成“100种最具影响力的医学及生物学刊物”。
因此此次评选的期刊会分为临床医学相关（Clinical Medicine & Allied Health Science）、分子生物学及生物技术（Molecular and Cellular Biology including Journals of Biotechnology and the Leading Multiscience Publications）、自然科学进展（Natural History）三大类。
其中也包括了我们常见的一些期刊，比如Nature，Cell，Science，Blood，The Lancet等等。
